BOOKVIEW GIVES A RAINBOW OF CHAOS A 4-STAR REVIEW!

A Rainbow of Chaos has been awarded a 4-star review by Book View. Here is how they assessed the book. "Not long after her last visit (the sixth) to the Himalayan country, Kamal returns to Nepal once again, hoping to find peace and clarity after her separation from her emotionally abusive husband in Thailand. But with the COVID-19 pandemic concerting its grip on the nation, she becomes stranded, unable to return to Thailand. She finds solace and comfort with one of the Nepalese “brothers” she has met earlier during her time in Nepal. Many years younger and the owner of a small trekking and expedition firm, Arjun turned out to be a love match. As they embark on their unconventional journey of love, there are moments of passion, doubt, joy, and small sorrows. But the relationship goes so well that the reader keeps waiting for it to crash, right up until they are finally together in the end having overcome all the difficulties. The memoir deftly captures the Nepalese customs, culture, and traditions within its pages, showcasing the unmatched beauty of the majestic Himalayas while never sugarcoating the prevalent corrupt political practices among the bureaucracy in the nation (despite the policy that foreign nationals cannot open a bank account, the author succeeds in obtaining a bank account complete with passbook and ATM card). At the same time, the book subtly explores the intricacies of love and relationships, second chances, mistakes, regrets, and self-discovery while delving into the tumultuous period of COVID lockdown. Both a travelogue and an insightful memoir about finding love and happiness during the COVID lockdown, this is a must-read." Click here to see the original review.

Exciting news! 'A Rainbow of Chaos' has been given a 4-star rating and a very perceptive, postive review on the Readers' Favorite website. Here is an extract: "Louisa Kamal captures her mixed emotions of both highs and lows during her tumultuous year with resounding precision. The readers can share her struggles both internally and externally throughout A Rainbow of Chaos. Her story of finding love again in such an unpredictable and scary period of COVID-19 is inspiring and positive. She writes about the difficulties of her relationship with Arjun and the challenges they faced honestly."  You can read the review in its entirety here.

    A MONTH IN MUSTANG!

Louisa has just returned from spending a month in Mustang, a 'high-altitude' desert region in the north-west of Nepal. It is fairly inaccessible and remote--in Louisa's case, it took 2 days by road to reach there even though the total distance from Kathmandu is less than 400km--but majestic and overwhelming. Louisa stayed for a month in the little town of Kagebeni, situated at an altitude of around 2800m at the confluence of the Kaligandaki River and the Jhong Khola. Her target was to fulfill her commitment to teach, on a voluntary basis, at both the Kag Chode Monastic School and the Mustang Buddhist College for two months every year, an activity that she commenced in Autumn 2019. The month passed busily and happily, with joyful reunions with her lama family all too soon followed by emotional farewells. She is eagerly looking forward to returning in October!

'A RAINBOW OF CHAOS' SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHED!

The Global Launch of 'A Rainbow of Chaos' last Friday, 24 March, at Karma Coffee, HUB, Boudha, was everything Louisa hoped it would be: joyous, celebratory, and a really memorable occasion. It was informal and held al fresco: thankfully the rain which had plagued the Kathmandu Valley earlier in the week had gone and Spring was in the air. There was a good turnout of both Nepalis and ex-pats living in Kathmandu, with representatives of some of  the city's major bookshops also attending. Arjun's family was there and a highspot for many was when, after a reading of how she met aama-lai (Arjun's mother) for the first time, Louisa went to acknowledge her, giving her a khata (votive scarf) in the Tibetan gesture of respect, before they warmly embraced each other. Many were seen furtively wiping away a tear after that. Louisa extends her thanks to everyone who came to support the launch and for the hard work of those behind the scenes.
